Batavia Walk

A walk from Sunda Kelapa harbour passed the historic buildings along Kali Besar and the subburb 'Pasar Ikan' to  Fatahillah square.  A local guide picks you up at your hotel in Jakarta and by pubic transport you go to the starting point of your walk. Sunda Kelapa is the 'old' harbour of Batavia you can still see traditional ships (phinisi) these days mostly from Sulawesi.  These phenisi sail in with local goods and you can see how day labors are handling the cargo.

Usually you can also board one of these phenisi and see the inside. After the short walk in Sunda Kelapa we walk in the direction of Kota Tua. You pass Fish market, under bridge highway, Hotel Batavia and the famous river 'Kali Besar'. Your guide gives you an explanation of the details of the building you are passing. The walk ends at Fatahillah Square. Your guide will leave you here and if you want you still can visit the museum there. Finally you can enjoy coffee or tea in Batavia Cafe after a day walk. Its a cozy place but pricey.
